Just Call Me Trouble

Who, me?

Today we realized that we are a tad behind on child-proofing.

I've been half-heartedly telling Nick that we really need to do the final work on the bedroom.  But so far Cora hasn't done much climbing out of bed, even though we knew it was ready to happen.  (For the record, no, she's not climbing out of a crib. She sleeps on a toddler mattress right next to our mattress, both on the floor.  It's part of our GRADUAL attempt to work her out of our bed.)

Usually she lets us know she's awake by talking or whining, and then she sits and plays until we come to her.

But last week Nick heard some noise in the room and went in to find Cora scooting toward the dresser, leaving a trail from her dirty, leaky diaper.  Again on Saturday when I went to get her up I found her scooting to the trash can.  We should have finished the child-proofing then.

But yesterday she gave not a peep.  Not even one.  The little sneaker has learned the ropes.

I heard a small bump.  The kind of bump that is typical in a house with two cats.  But still, I knew that I should go check on Cora.

This time I found her on the floor on Daddy's side of the bed.  The as yet not child-proofed side, complete with uncovered electrical outlets (yes, I know... negligent...) and even a couple pairs of Daddy's shoes, whose soles Cora will disgustingly lick if lucky enough to find a wayward pair.

But her true find was the box of tissues.

Yes, I know, not overwhelmingly naughty.  And when caught in the act she was quite pleased herself.

She was even willing to share the loot.

But it did prompt us to immediately finish our baby-proofing efforts.  We finally installed the outlet covers and tucked the wires safely away.  Oh yeah, and moved the kleenex out of reach.  Guess now we just need a more sensitive baby monitor or one with a video.

  1. Ha! Smart girl! I learned about the tissues a long time ago......after losing several entire boxes to the Tissue Monster, AKA Owen. We are STILL child-proofing our stuff since now he's into drawers. Enter the MOST aggravating installation of cabinet locks/drawer pulls. We did the Safety 1st ones that have to be screwed in because the stick ones do not work, period. Slowly but surely we are getting our cabinets and drawers back! :)

  2. what a little monkey!!! I was marveling at the exposed wires in the background, and that they were still plugged in! Gary has a thing for plugs.

  3. Oh, yes, tissues. Samantha had her joy of tissues, too, but thankfully that has passed and she just uses them to blow her nose. :-) Glad you got child-proofed! I'm sure she's gearing up to show you what *else* she can do!!

Btw, we found out the hard way how important it is to anchor dressers and other furniture to the walls when Sammi's dresser fell on her. Luckily she wasn't hurt (got lots of scans at the hospital and a ride in an ambulance), but we promptly removed it from her room after that (she was 3, and had the top several drawers open when it became unbalanced).

  5. Haha, what a little stinker!! Ug, and Russell use to lick the bottoms of shoes if he ever found them laying around too! Thank God he kicked that disgusting habit though! lol

  6. Oh Miss Cora! Whenever it is quiet, suspect trouble! I am still finding new things to child proof. It amazes me the things kids think of.

  7. At least she was not eating the tissues, our boy has a condition known as a pica, and he obsessively looks for paper, tissues, books, cardboard. If he finds a tissue box that has been accidentally left in his range he goes for it. Also books , oh my goodness, we have to be obsessively tidy and keep them put of the way.
I think Jonathan would be a good playmate for your Cora! She looks spicy and fun! He's very cheeky too.

Can you please do an update on the orthotics? have you noticed any improvement, would love to know...thanks.

    1. I've been meaning to get around on updating about the orthotics... just haven't gotten to it yet. But they are making a huge difference! Her stability in standing is much improved and she is walking while holding our hands now. Big changes that are great to see. But yes, I will update soon!

    2. And, actually she does love to eat paper and tissues too. For some reason she must have been caught up in the novelty of discovery and didn't think to sample her goods this time.
